How Learning Astrology Transformed My Relationships

Writer: Mallory McCoyMallory McCoy

Greetings and Happy Monday, everyone! May this blog post bring you what you need in the present moment. May my light exude positivity and kindness, and may my love be extended to all who could use a little extra. Asé! Let's seize the moment!

Because of my busy schedule, my blogs will start aligning with "A Monday Moment with Dr. Mal," my live-streamed episodes on YouTube, Facebook, and Twitch. Check them out at the aforementioned links!

I’m grateful for this very moment to be here with you. May blessings flow abundantly in your life!

FYI: This blog post is a repeat of an earlier blog post but with an updated perspective.

Now, you know I love me a good definition, and I'm team #factsoverfeelings, right? But I dropped the facts this whole show, so I'll get right into it!

Have you ever wondered why some relationships seem to click and others don't? In my marriage, my partner and I seemingly clicked, but we struggled with communication and brought a whole lot of past trauma into the relationship. We tried to communicate effectively, but it seemed like I was always talking to a wall, and from my perspective, he was always speaking gibberish. 😳 One day, I looked up and realized we had a “roommate relationship,”… literally living parallel lives, and ultimately, we broke up. It was a hard breakup and hard reconciliation (I’ll share in next week's show), but in the second breath of our relationship, we have learned a lot about astrology. Consequently, learning about astrology completely changed my perspective on all relationship dynamics and helped me gain a better understanding of why we collectively communicate and respond to things as we do.

Value of Compatibility

The most important thing that astrology taught me is the value of compatibility. You and your partner should be able to understand each other's needs and wants without explaining them in detail. This knowledge can be invaluable when it comes to resolving disagreements or making decisions together.

Not that you should dissolve the relationship if your relationship doesn’t have compatibility, but it certainly helps to sustain the relationship. This is where astrology comes into play. Your partner or friend won’t even have to tell you about them if you dive into their astrological makeup.

Some may think all astrological signs were created equal, but this couldn't be further from the truth. Each sign has its own unique set of characteristics, strengths, and weaknesses - all of which have an impact on how well two people will get along. For example, people with fire sign energy (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius) tend to be firecrackers, bringing the party wherever they go, while those with water sign energy (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces) are more intuitive and emotional. People with Earth energy (Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn) are incredibly stable and grounded, and people with Air energy (Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius) have great ideas and communicate well. Understanding these traits can help you determine if you are truly compatible with someone before you commit too deeply to the relationship.

Sun, Moon, and Rising Signs, Oh my!

Another thing people don’t realize is that everyone actually has three different signs:

  • Sun Sign- This is the most recognized sign because it's attached to the month and date you were born and attributes to our overall attitude and spirit. It's the sign of the ego.

  • Moon Sign- The moon sign changes signs every 2 1/2 days and is attached to the month, day, and year one is born. It rules our subconscious mind and governs the ebbs and flows of our deepest emotions. Our moon sign shapes our relationships and experiences with others. This is the hidden part of ourselves and has a great impact on us. One can easily find out their moon sign by googling "[insert birth date and year] moon sign." My favorite website for this is astro-seek.com.

  • Rising sign- The rising sign changes every two hours and is attached to the month, day, year, and TIME one is born. It's the vibe and energy one puts out into the world, so people may mistakenly guess that you are THIS sign before they know your sun sign, especially if you operate more in the energy of the rising sign.

Knowing your top three signs will help you know your full birth chart. Use apps like Co-Star, The Pattern, or Time Passages to read about yourself and others. To get the most accurate descriptions, have your birth time ready. If you don’t know your birth time, you can always order your birth certificate from the state, contact the hospital you were born in to get the official records, or just ask your Mama! I’ll never forget what time my baby was born!

Power of the Planets and Houses

Finally, learning about astrology has helped me appreciate how much power the planets like Venus and Mars and other celestial beings have over our lives. The position of these planets can tell us a lot about our personalities and relationships with other people. For example, if Venus is in retrograde, it could indicate that there may be issues related to romance or affection between two people - something that would not necessarily be noticeable at first glance without this knowledge!

Also, the planetary houses are used to predict how each stage of your life will play out. The houses are something I am slowly learning about, but the more I learn about them, the more my life makes sense.

You don't have to believe that planets affect behavior, but in honor of the Strawberry Full Moon in Capricorn coming up, ask a teacher you know about what happens in a school building during a full moon phase! They'll tell you something different!

I say all that to say: learning astrology has been an eye-opening experience for me - one that has allowed me to gain insight into my own platonic and romantic relationships as well as those around me. By exploring the power of compatibility through the lens of astrological signs and planetary positions, I’ve come to understand why some relationships click while others don’t - knowledge that has been invaluable in helping me make informed decisions about my love life! If you're looking for a way to bring a fresh perspective into your relationships, consider implementing astrology in your life!

Call to Action: Open Your Minds

My call to action for you this week is to open your mind to learning more about astrology. In my experience, if people don't know much about astrology, they're at least interested in it. I would like to encourage you to learn a little more about it. Dive deeper to figure out at least your top 3 signs, especially those who read about their sun sign and the description doesn't resonate with them. It's easy to write off astrology completely if you don't resonate with your sun sign, but it could actually be because you present from your rising or moon sign.

And for anybody who has school-aged children, ask THEM about astrology! It has come up in my classrooms from K-12, and I've actually learned things from them! Honestly, the younger they are, the more you can see their sun signs play out. I really saw it firsthand when I long-term subbed Kindergarten! Students need to be grouped by their sun signs.

Find an astrologer and have them give you an expert reading. For my birthday last year, I had my first astrology reading with Kateria Knows. She's studied astrology for 26 years, and with my birth date, time of birth, and place of birth, she was able to tell me more about myself than I even was aware of. I feel incredibly enlightened. What's next?

I look forward to formally studying astrology with experts in the game. School's never out for this lifelong learner, as I now realize that life in this earthly plane is merely a classroom, not a courtroom.

And to wrap up, I leave you with a quote and a list of affirmations. Thanks to wellandgood.com and hindustantimes.com for helping me formulate these affirmations. You can read each affirmation for your sun and rising signs:

Well, that's all for me this week! Tune in next week for a deeply personal show entitled “Letting Go of Love with Love.”
